8-Bit Timers

The TMP93CS32 contains four 8-bit timers (Timers 0, 1, 2, 3), each of which can be operated

independently. The cascade connection allows these timers to be used as 16-bit timer. The

following four operating modes are provided for the 8-bit timers.

•

8-bit interval timer mode (4 timers)

•

16-bit interval timer mode (2 timers)

•

8-bit programmable square wave pulse generation (PPG: Variable duty with variable cycle)

output mode (1 timer)

•

8-bit pulse width modulation (PWM: Variable duty with constant cycle) output mode (1

timer)

Figure 3.7.1 shows the block diagram of 8-bit timer (Timer 0, 1), and Figure 3.7.2 shows the

block diagram of 8-bit timer (Timer 2, 3).

Each interval timer consists of an 8-bit up counter, 8-bit comparator, and 8-bit timer register.

Besides, timer flip-flops (TFF1, TFF3), are provided for pair of timer 0/1 and 2/3.

Among the input clock sources for the interval timers, the internal clocks of

φT1, φT4, φT16,

and

φT256 are obtained from the 9-bit prescaler shown in Figure 3.7.3.

The operation modes and timer flip-flops of the 8-bit timer are controlled by five control

registers T10MOD, T32MOD, TFFCR, TRUN, and TRDC.
