The internal compensation of the INA700 corrects for pin-to-pin resistance increases with temperature, achieving
less than 50 ppm/°C drift over the ambient temperature range.
The INA700 is most accurate when measuring currents around 5 A. As currents increase the error in the current
measurement also increases. Figure 7-2 below shows how the gain error of the INA700 varies with the shunt
current.

The change in gain error is consistent enough from device to device that returned values can be scaled up or
down depending on the shunt current to give a more accurate result. For example, to achieve higher accuracy
when measuring currents around 7 A, the returned value can be scaled down by approximately 0.4%.
7.3.2 Safe Operating Area
The power dissipated in the device limits the maximum current that can be safely handled by the device. The
current consumed to power the device is low, therefore the primary source of heating is due to the current flow
through the internal shunt resistor. The maximum safe-operating current level shown in Figure 7-3 is set so that
the heat generated in the package is limited and the internal junction temperature of the silicon does not exceed
125°C. This data was collected on the evaluation module that uses a 2-layer board with 1-oz copper power
planes to the INA700 IN+ and IN– pins.
