73 / 85 page ![]() 2009 - 2015 Microchip Technology Inc. DS00001880A-page 73 USB333x 8.2 USB Charger Detection The USB333x provides the hardware described in the USB Battery Charging Specification. Microchip provides an Appli- cation Note which describes how to use the USB333x in a battery charging application. 8.3 Reference Designs Microchip has generated reference designs for connecting the USB333x to SOCs/ASICs with a ULPI port. Please con- tact the Microchip sales office for more details. 8.4 ESD Performance The USB333x is protected from ESD strikes. By eliminating the requirement for external ESD protection devices, board space is conserved, and the board manufacturer is enabled to reduce cost. The advanced ESD structures integrated into the USB333x protect the device whether or not it is powered up. 8.4.1 HUMAN BODY MODEL (HBM) PERFORMANCE HBM testing verifies the ability to withstand the ESD strikes like those that occur during handling and manufacturing, and is done without power applied to the IC. To pass the test, the device must have no change in operation or perfor- mance due to the event. The USB333x HBM performance is detailed in Table 4-13.
