8. Avoid handling modules in areas that have a floor or work surface cover
ing capable of generating a static charge.
9. Do not use highvelocity compressed air when cleaning dust from mod
ules.
The cabinet helps keep dust out of the oscilloscope and it is a majorcompo
nent of its cooling system. It should normally be in place when operating the
oscilloscope. The optional oscilloscope front cover protects the front panel
and display from dust and damage. Install it when storing or transporting the
oscilloscope.
Inspect and clean the oscilloscope as often as operating conditions require.
The collection of dirt on components inside can cause them to overheat and
breakdown. (Dirt acts as an insulating blanket, preventing efficient heat
dissipation.) Dirt also provides an electrical conduction path that could cause
an oscilloscope failure, especially under highhumidity conditions.
CAUTION
Avoid the use of chemical cleaning agents that might damage the
plastics used in this oscilloscope. Use only deionized water when
cleaning the menu buttons or front panel buttons. Use a 75% isopro
pyl alcohol solution as a cleaner and rinse with deionized water. Be
fore using any other type of cleaner, consult your Tektronix Service
Center or representative.
Avoid the use of high pressure compressed air when cleaning dust
from the interior of this instrument. (High pressure air can cause
ESD.) Instead, use low pressure compressed air (about 9 psi).
Inspection
Exterior
Using Table 81 as a guide, inspect the outside of the oscilloscope fordam
age, wear, and missing parts. You should thoroughly check oscilloscopes that
appear to have been dropped or otherwise abused to verify correct operation
and performance. Immediately repair defects that could cause personal injury
orlead to furtherdamage to the oscilloscope.
