Inspection and Cleaning
Inspection and Cleaning describes how to inspect for dirt and damage on
and how to clean the exterior and interior of the oscilloscope. You should
perform inspection and cleaningas preventive maintenance. Preventive
maintenance, when done regularly, may prevent oscilloscope malfunction
and enhance its reliability.
Preventive maintenance consists of visually inspectingand cleaningthe
oscilloscope and usinggeneral care when operatingit.
How often to do maintenance depends on the severity of the environment in
which you use the oscilloscope. A proper time to perform preventive mainte
nance is just before oscilloscope adjustment.
CAUTION
Static discharge can damage any semiconductor component in this
oscilloscope.
Precautions
When performingany service which requires internal access to the oscillo
scope, adhere to the followingprecautions to avoid damaginginternal mod
ules and their components due to electrostatic discharge (ESD).
1. Minimize handlingof staticsensitive modules.
2. Transport and store staticsensitive modules in their static protected
containers. Label any package that contains staticsensitive modules.
3. Discharge the static voltage from your body by wearing a grounded
antistatic wrist strap while handlingthese modules. Do service of
staticsensitive modules only at a staticfree work station.
4. Do not remove the oscilloscope cabinet unless you have met precaution
number 3, above. Consider all internal modules staticsensitive.
5. Nothingcapable of generatingor holdinga static charge should be
allowed on the work station surface.
6. Handle circuit boards by the edges when possible.
7. Do not slide the modules over any surface.
