Data Memory

TheDataMemoryisavolatileareaof8-bitwideRAMinternalmemoryandisthelocationwhere

temporaryinformationisstored.

Dividedintothreesections,thefirstoftheseisanareaofRAMwherespecialfunctionregistersare

located.Theseregistershavefixedlocationsandarenecessaryforcorrectoperationofthedevice.

Manyoftheseregisterscanbereadfromandwrittentodirectlyunderprogramcontrol,however,

someremainprotectedfromusermanipulation.

ThesecondareaofDataMemoryisreservedforgeneralpurposeuse.Alllocationswithinthisarea

arereadandwriteaccessibleunderprogramcontrol.

ThethirdareaisreservedfortheLCDMemory.ThisspecialareaofDataMemoryismapped

directlytotheLCDdisplaysodatawrittenintothismemoryareawilldirectlyaffectthedisplayed

data.TheaddressesoftheLCDMemoryareaoverlapthoseintheGeneralPurposeDataMemory

area.SwitchingbetweenthedifferentDataMemorybanksisachievedbysettingtheBankPointerto

thecorrectvalue.

Structure

TheDataMemoryissubdividedintofivebanks,knownasBank0toBank4,allofwhichare

implementedin8-bitwideRAM.TheDataMemorylocatedinBank0issubdividedintotwo

sections,theSpecialPurposeDataMemoryandtheGeneralPurposeDataMemory.

ThestartaddressoftheDataMemoryforthedeviceistheaddress00H.Registerswhichare

commontoallmicrocontrollers,suchasACC,PCL,etc.,havethesameDataMemoryaddress.The

LCDMemoryismappedintoBank1.TheBanks2to4containonlyGeneralPurposeDataMemory

forthedevice.AstheSpecialPurposeDataMemoryregistersaremappedintoallbankareas,they

cansubsequentlybeaccessedfromanybanklocation.
