Crystal Recommended Capacitor Values External RC Oscillator – ERC UsingtheERCoscillatoronlyrequiresthataresistor,withavaluebetween56kΩand2.4MΩ, isconnectedbetweenOSC1andVDD,andacapacitorisconnectedbetweenOSC1andground, providingalowcostoscillatorconfiguration.Itisonlytheexternalresistorthatdeterminesthe oscillationfrequency;theexternalcapacitorhasnoinfluenceoverthefrequencyandisconnected forstabilitypurposesonly.Devicetrimmingduringthemanufacturingprocessandtheinclusion ofinternalfrequencycompensationcircuitsareusedtoensurethattheinfluenceofthepower supplyvoltage,temperatureandprocessvariationsontheoscillationfrequencyareminimised.Asa resistance/frequencyreferencepoint,itcanbenotedthatwithanexternal120kΩresistorconnected andwitha5Vvoltagepowersupplyandtemperatureof25°Cdegrees,theoscillatorwillhavea frequencyof4MHzwithinatoleranceof2%.HereonlytheOSC1pinisused,whichissharedwith I/OpinPA5,leavingpinPA6freeforuseasanormalI/Opin. Foroscillatorstabilityandtominimisetheeffectsofnoiseandcrosstalk,itisimportanttolocatethe capacitorandresistorasclosetotheMCUaspossible. OSC1 I/O ROSC �0pF VDD OSC� External RC Oscillator – ERC Internal RC Oscillator – HIRC TheinternalRCoscillatorisafullyintegratedsystemoscillatorrequiringnoexternalcomponents. TheinternalRCoscillatorhasafixedfrequenciesof8MHz.Devicetrimmingduringthe manufacturingprocessandtheinclusionofinternalfrequencycompensationcircuitsareusedto ensurethattheinfluenceofthepowersupplyvoltage,temperatureandprocessvariationsonthe oscillationfrequencyareminimised.Asaresult,atapowersupplyofeither3Vor5Vandata temperatureof25°Cdegrees,thefixedoscillationfrequencyof8MHzwillhaveatolerancewithin 2%.Notethatifthisinternalsystemclockoptionisselected,asitrequiresnoexternalpinsforits operation,I/OpinsarefreeforuseasnormalI/Opins. |
