R Type Biasing ForRtypebiasinganexternalLCDvoltagesourcemustbesuppliedonpinVLCDtogeneratethe internalbiasingvoltages.Thiscouldbethemicrocontrollerpowersupplyorsomeothervoltage source.FortheRtype1/2biasselection,threevoltagelevelsVSS,VAandVBareutilised.The voltageVAisequaltotheexternallysuppliedvoltagesourceappliedtopinVLCD.ThevoltageVBis generatedinternallybythemicrocontrollerandwillhaveavalueequaltoVLCD/2.FortheRtype1/3 biasselection,fourvoltagelevelsVSS,VA,VBandVCareutilised.ThevoltageVAisequaltoVLCD. ThevoltageVBisequaltoVLCD×2/3whilethevoltageVCisequaltoVLCD×1/3. For1/2or1/3bias,differentvaluesofinternalbiasresistorscanbeselectedusingtheRSEL0and RSEL1bitsintheLCDC0register.ThisalongwiththevoltageonpinVLCDwilldeterminethebias current.TheconnectiontotheVMAXpindependsuponthevoltagethatisappliedtotheVLCDpin. IftheVDDvoltageisgreaterthanthevoltageappliedtotheVLCDpinthentheVMAXpinshould beconnectedtoVDD,otherwisetheVMAXpinshouldbeconnectedtopinVLCD.Notethatno externalcapacitorsorresistorsarerequiredtobeconnectedifRtypebiasingisused.
