Insimpleterms,ModeSwitchingbetweentheNORMALModeandSLOWModeisexecuted usingtheHLCLKbitandCKS2~CKS0bitsintheSMODregisterwhileModeSwitchingfromthe NORMAL/SLOWModestotheSLEEP/IDLEModesisexecutedviatheHALTinstruction.When aHALTinstructionisexecuted,whetherthisdeviceentertheIDLEModeortheSLEEPModeis determinedbytheconditionoftheIDLENbitintheSMODregisterandFSYSONintheCTRL register. WhentheHLCLKbitswitchestoalowlevel,whichimpliesthatclocksourceisswitchedfromthe highspeedclocksource,fH,totheclocksource,fH/2~fH/64orfL.IftheclockisfromthefL,thehigh speedclocksourcewillstoprunningtoconservepower.Whenthishappensitmustbenotedthatthe fH/16andfH/64internalclocksourceswillalsostoprunning,whichmayaffecttheoperationofother internalfunctionssuchastheTMs.Theaccompanyingflowchartshowswhathappenswhenthis devicemovebetweenthevariousoperatingmodes. NORMAL Mode to SLOW Mode Switching WhenrunningintheNORMALMode,whichusesthehighspeedsystemoscillator,andtherefore consumesmorepower,thesystemclockcanswitchtorunintheSLOWModebysettheHLCLKbit to“0”andsettheCKS2~CKS0bitsto“000”or“001”intheSMODregister.Thiswillthenusethe lowspeedsystemoscillatorwhichwillconsumelesspower.Usersmaydecidetodothisforcertain operationswhichdonotrequirehighperformanceandcansubsequentlyreducepowerconsumption. TheSLOWModeissourcedfromtheLIRCoscillatorandthereforerequiresthisoscillatortobe stablebeforefullmodeswitchingoccurs.ThisismonitoredusingtheLTObitintheSMODregister. SLOW Mode to NORMAL Mode Switching InSLOWModethesystemusestheLIRClowspeedsystemoscillator.Toswitchbacktothe NORMALMode,wherethehighspeedsystemoscillatorisused,theHLCLKbitshouldbesetto “1”orHLCLKbitis“0”,butCKS2~CKS0issetto“010”,“011”,“100”,“101”,“110”or“111”. Asacertainamountoftimewillberequiredforthehighfrequencyclocktostabilise,thestatusof theHTObitischecked.Theamountoftimerequiredforhighspeedsystemoscillatorstabilization dependsuponwhichhighspeedsystemoscillatortypeisused. |
