A/D Clock Period Examples

Controllingthepoweron/offfunctionoftheA/Dconvertercircuitryisimplementedusingthe

ADOFFbitintheADCR0register.ThisbitmustbezerotopowerontheA/Dconverter.Whenthe

ADOFFbitisclearedtozerotopowerontheA/Dconverterinternalcircuitryacertaindelay,as

indicatedinthetimingdiagram,mustbeallowedbeforeanA/Dconversionisinitiated.Evenifno

pinsareselectedforuseasA/DinputsbyclearingtheACE3~ACE0bitsintheACERregister,if

theADOFFbitiszerothensomepowerwillstillbeconsumed.Inpowerconsciousapplicationsit

isthereforerecommendedthattheADOFFissethightoreducepowerconsumptionwhentheA/D

converterfunctionisnotbeingused.

ThereferencevoltagesupplytotheA/DConvertercanbesuppliedfromeitherthepositivepower

supplypin,VDD,orfromanexternalreferencesourcessuppliedonpinVREF.Thedesiredselection

ismadeusingtheVREFSbit.AstheVREFpinispin-sharedwithotherfunctions,whentheVREFS

bitissethigh,theVREFpinfunctionwillbeselectedandtheotherpinfunctionswillbedisabled

automatically.

A/D Input Pins

AlloftheA/Danaloginputpinsarepin-sharedwiththeI/OpinsonPA3~PA0aswellasother

functions.TheACE3~ACE0bitsintheACERregisterdetermineswhethertheinputpinsaresetup

asA/Dconverteranaloginputsorwhethertheyhaveotherfunctions.IftheACE3~ACE0bitsforits

correspondingpinissethighthenthepinwillbesetuptobeanA/Dconverterinputandtheoriginal

pinfunctionsdisabled.Inthisway,pinscanbechangedunderprogramcontroltochangetheir

functionbetweenA/Dinputsandotherfunctions.Allpull-highresistors,whicharesetupthrough

registerprogramming,willbeautomaticallydisconnectedifthepinsaresetupasA/Dinputs.Note

thatitisnotnecessarytofirstsetuptheA/DpinasaninputinthePACportcontrolregistertoenable

theA/DinputaswhentheACE3~ACE0bitsenableanA/Dinput,thestatusoftheportcontrol

registerwillbeoverridden.

TheA/DconverterhasitsownreferencevoltagepinVREFhoweverthereferencevoltagecan

alsobesuppliedfromthepowersupplypin,achoicewhichismadethroughtheVREFSbitinthe

ADCR1register.TheanaloginputvaluesmustnotbeallowedtoexceedthevalueofVREF.
