A/D Converter Data Registers – ADRL, ADRH

Asthedevicescontainaninternal12-bitA/Dconverter,theyrequiretwodataregisterstostorethe

convertedvalue.Theseareahighbyteregister,knownasADRH,andalowbyteregister,known

asADRL.Aftertheconversionprocesstakesplace,theseregisterscanbedirectlyreadbythe

microcontrollertoobtainthedigitisedconversionvalue.Asonly12bitsofthe16-bitregisterspace

isutilised,theformatinwhichthedataisstorediscontrolledbytheADRFSbitintheADCR0

registerasshownintheaccompanyingtable.D0~D11aretheA/Dconversionresultdatabits.Any

unusedbitswillbereadaszero.

A/D Data Registers

A/D Converter Control Registers – ADCR0, ADCR1, ACER

TocontrolthefunctionandoperationoftheA/Dconverter,threecontrolregistersknownasADCR0,

ADCR1andACERareprovided.These8-bitregistersdefinefunctionssuchastheselectionof

whichanalogchannelisconnectedtotheinternalA/Dconverter,thedigitiseddataformat,theA/

DclocksourceaswellascontrollingthestartfunctionandmonitoringtheA/Dconverterendof

conversionstatus.TheACS1~ACS0bitsintheADCR0registerandACS4bitistheADCR1register

definetheADCinputchannelnumber.Asthedevicecontainsonlyoneactualanalogtodigital

converterhardwarecircuit,eachoftheindividual4analoginputsmustberoutedtotheconverter.It

isthefunctionoftheACS4andACS1~ACS0bitstodeterminewhichanalogchannelinputpinsor

internal1.25VisactuallyconnectedtotheinternalA/Dconverter.

TheACERcontrolregistercontainstheACE3~ACE0bitswhichdeterminewhichpinsonPA0~PA3

areusedasanaloginputsfortheA/DconverterinputandwhichpinsarenottobeusedastheA/D

converterinput.SettingthecorrespondingbithighwillselecttheA/Dinputfunction,clearingthe

bittozerowillselecteithertheI/Oorotherpin-sharedfunction.Whenthepinisselectedtobean

A/Dinput,itsoriginalfunctionwhetheritisanI/Oorotherpin-sharedfunctionwillberemoved.In

addition,anyinternalpull-highresistorsconnectedtothesepinswillbeautomaticallyremovedifthe

pinisselectedtobeanA/Dinput.
