# VSC7217 Multi-Gigabit Interconnect Chip
## Overview
️· Preliminary datasheet for the VSC7217, a multi-gigabit interconnect chip by Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation.
️· Designed for high-speed data transmission and reception.
## Input/Output & Timing
️· TMODE(2:0): Configures input timing reference (REFCLK rising edge, TBCA/TBCn rising/data edge).
️· RMODE(1:0): Configures output timing reference (REFCLK centered/leading, RCLKA/RCLKNA, RCLKn/RCLKNn).
️· WSENn, C/Dn, KCHAR: Control encoded 10-bit output selection.
️· LBENn(1:0): Configures loopback mode (Normal, Parallel, Serial).
️· Signals for serial data source (RXP/Rn).
## Functional Features
️· Deserialization & Character Alignment: Converts serial data to 10-bit characters, recognizes "Comma" patterns (0011111xxx or 1100000xxx) for framing. K28.5 is the IDLE character.
️· 10B/8B Decoder: Decodes 10-bit characters to 8-bit data and generates status information (errors, K-character detection).
️· Elastic Buffer & Channel Deskewing: Facilitates channel alignment and rate matching with IDLE insertion/deletion. Recenters on RESETN, Comma detection, or Word Sync.
