The design of the sensing electrode is the result of the sensing requirements of the application and of a careful analysis of what the sensor environment is over the lifetime of the application. The sensor is built with two electrode plates. The two electrode plates create a projected capacitance. The projected capacitance is defined in Equation 2 and illustrated in Figure 15.
