45 / 76 page  1997 Dec 15 45 Philips Semiconductors Product specification 8-bit microcontrollers P83C524; P80C528; P83C528 17.1 Power-on reset When VDD is turned on, and provided its rise-time does not exceed 10 ms, an automatic reset can be obtained by connecting the RST pin to VDD via a 2.2 µF capacitor. When the power is switched on, the voltage on the RST pin is equal to VDD minus the capacitor voltage, and decreases from VDD as the capacitor charges through the internal resistor (RRST) to ground. The larger the capacitor, the more slowly VRST decreases. VRST must remain above the lower threshold of the Schmitt trigger long enough to effect a complete reset. The time required is the oscillator start-up time, plus 2 machine cycles, or 16 x 2048 cycles of the on-chip watchdog oscillator if it is running, whichever is longer (see Fig.25).
